Woori Card's 'Card Basics' Runaway Hit — Surpasses 300,000 in Two Months

Woori Card announced on the 31st that its flagship product Card Basics POINT has become a runaway hit, surpassing 300,000 cards issued two months after launch.

Woori Card unveiled its new product Card Basics POINT last month, adding artistic design to point-earning benefits. Since then, an enthusiastic customer response has driven it to 100,000 cards issued in three weeks and 300,000 in two months, a continuing surge in popularity.

The first secret to the card's popularity is its dramatic point-earning benefits. All categories earn a base 0.8%, with unlimited accrual once the previous month's spending reaches 300,000 won.

Through big-data analysis, the card also helps customers earn up to 5% back in 10 everyday categories they frequently use, such as telecom and public transit, and adds an extra 3% back for simple-pay users.

Artistic product design also contributed to the hit. Applying Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung's work 'Gwayubulgeup' brought Korean beauty into the card, and the company did not neglect customers' visual and emotional satisfaction either.

Woori Card is running a variety of product-launch events to reward customers' enthusiastic support for Card Basics POINT. Through the end of June, it has prepared double card points for customers using the four major simple-pay services (Naver Pay, Kakao Pay, Payco, SSG Pay), 2–3 month interest-free installments at all merchants, and airfare special-price events.

A Woori Card official said, "Next month we'll unveil Card Basics discount-type and shopping-type products with dramatic benefits at the industry's best level."

Further details on the product and ongoing events are available on the Woori Card official website and mobile application.

Shinhan Card Selected for Government-Supported In-House Venture Development Program

Shinhan Card announced on the 31st that it has been selected as a supported company under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' 'In-House Venture Founding and Spin-off Support Program.' Among the 22 companies selected for government support, Shinhan Card is the only financial company.

The 'In-House Venture Founding and Spin-off Support Program' is a government initiative supporting in-house ventures run by private companies with a will to nurture internal startups that pass certain criteria. This time, some 80 companies applied and a total of 22 were selected.

With this selection, Shinhan Card's in-house venture teams can each receive up to 100 million won in support, and spin-off companies can later receive support in R&D, policy funding (loans, guarantees), follow-up investment, overseas marketing, and other government programs.

Shinhan Card has run an in-house venture program since 2016, and this year expanded and reorganized it under the name 'Shinhan Card I'm Ventures,' running a startup-support program that seeks and develops business ideas not only from employees but together with outside startups.

A Shinhan Card official said, "Through close cooperation with our selected in-house ventures and outside startups, we will continue to strengthen our growth-engine discovery and hyper-connected management strategy going forward."
