◆ Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital Holds Invitational Solo Exhibition of Korean Painter Kim Hyun Jung

Art Cube at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital (Director Joo Woong) is holding an invitational solo exhibition of Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung, ‘Naesoong Story’ (Naesoong: a Korean term for feigned modesty), from September 15 to November 17.

Kim Hyun Jung's ‘Naesoong Story’ portrays women in beautiful hanbok eating pizza in front of the refrigerator, drinking coffee and exercising. Through these everyday scenes, it depicts the Korean sentiment of trying to strike a balance between saving face and candor.

The opening reception of the solo exhibition, held on the 22nd at Art Cube on the second floor of Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital, was attended by Ewha Medical Center officials, including Ewha Medical Center Director Yoo Kyung-ha, Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital Director Kim Han-su and Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital Director Joo Woong.

Kim Hyun Jung said, “Painting ‘Naesoong Story’ helped me overcome depression myself and gave me time to heal. Since the exhibition is taking place in a hospital, I hope it will be a time for patients, caregivers and staff who view the works to put down the burdens on their minds for a moment and face the humor of everyday life.”

Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Jung has been actively exhibiting at major institutions in Korea and abroad, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, and was named to the 2017 Forbes list of 30 Under 30 in Asia, the influential young people under 30 selected by the world-renowned business magazine.
