Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung (pictured) held a solo exhibition on January 9 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, New York, at the invitation of the Korean American Immigration History Foundation.
The event doubled as a fundraiser to build an immigration history museum that can preserve over 110 years of Korean immigration history, and as the New York Korean Association's 'New York Korean Night.' Amid a program of opera, classical performances and dance, Kim gave an English lecture themed 'The Feign Story.' The event was attended by around 500 guests, including past chairpersons of the New York Korean Association and key figures such as US Senator Chuck Schumer, Representative Charles Rangel, Representative Grace Meng, and New York State Assemblyman Ron Kim. Kim's side said it was "the youngest-ever solo exhibition by a Korean."
Attendees responded enthusiastically to the signature works of the Naesoong series, showing great interest in the free theme harmonizing East and West, classical and contemporary, hidden within 'naesoong.'
Kim will hold the exhibition 'Naesoong Amusement Park' from March 16 to April 11 at Gallery Is in Insadong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
