Naesoong: Hero looks at the automobile and extends the meaning of ‘hero’ beyond the human figure. A car that carries us distances our own two legs cannot, widening the radius of our daily lives, felt to the artist like a quiet, ever-present source of strength. On reflection, we surpass our own limits with the help of countless tools. Things as familiar as a car or a smartphone — so ordinary that we forget to be grateful for them — have profoundly changed the shape of our lives. The ‘hero’ in this work is less about extraordinary superpowers than about the quiet strength that makes an ordinary day possible.
