On a Monday morning, a Naesung girl crossed the Han River on a login screen — and so began a week for Samsung’s employees. Naesung: The Highway found an unexpected home on the main page of Samsung’s internal intranet. In the painting, the protagonist, dressed elegantly in hanbok, glides forward on rollerblades along the banks of the Han River. The starting point was the artist’s own memory of walking along the river as a child, and the real experience of weaving through crowds to find her own path forward. Through the unlikely meeting of traditional hanbok and the momentum of rollerblading, she wanted to express the modern desire to forge one’s own way rather than follow answers dictated by society. There is no fixed road, no single correct answer — only a path made, moment by moment, through one’s own judgment. She hoped that path would, in the end, become a highway entirely her own.
