(Seoul Ilbo/Reporter Kang Min-gu) Gwanak-gu is preparing a meaningful evening of seeing and hearing Korean painting accompanied by music fitting for the deepening autumn night.

On the 15th at 7 p.m., the district will hold the humanities program "History Stories Seen Through a Painter's Eyes" with Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung in the 8th-floor auditorium of the Gwanak-gu Office.

The district expects this to be an opportunity to encounter the humanities—often felt to be difficult—in an easier and more enjoyable way, raising residents' humanities literacy and bringing new vitality to their lives.

This humanities lecture invites Kim Hyun Jung, currently the most closely watched rising star in the Korean painting world, known for the "boldness" of her fresh ideas, themes, and expressive techniques in reinterpreting 21st-century genre painting through pop art. Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung is an idol star of the art world who made her name with the artwork "Naesoong Story."

The "Naesoong Story series," a distinctive blend of women in hanbok and modern culture, will tell a story of freedom for hanbok and women once confined by the weight of tradition.

The lecture will also offer time to reinterpret the architectural and historical value of the royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty—along with palaces and royal shrines, a representative cultural heritage of the Joseon royal family—and to reflect, through a creative lens, on values handed down from the past amid today's rapidly changing society.

In particular, this humanities lecture will feature cultural and artistic performances fitting for an autumn night, including a musical performance by the indie band Redlow and a performance by the Korean art song ensemble "Arang," hosted by announcer Yoon Hye-min.

This lecture, which will color Gwanak-gu's autumn night with humanities and music, is free and open to all residents, with 500 spots being filled on a first-come, first-served basis through the Gwanak-gu website [Participation/Reservation > Course/Event Reservation].

For further details on the humanities program "History Stories Seen Through a Painter's Eyes," contact the Gwanak-gu Humanities Support Center.

A district official said, "We hope this humanities lecture will help establish a proper historical awareness of our heritage while preserving the old through a creative lens," adding, "We will continue striving to bring new vitality to residents' lives through diverse humanities programs."
