[Ilyo Seoul | Reporter Lee Beom-hee] As Lunar New Year, the nation's traditional holiday, approaches, all kinds of Lunar New Year gift sets are catching consumers' eyes, each showing off its own distinctive character.
Recently, the food industry has seen an increase in small, individually packaged products, driven by consumption trends such as the rise of single-person households and soaring prices. At the same time, as value-oriented gift sets priced at 50,000 won or less have become mainstream — reflecting social factors such as the Kim Young-ran Act — consumers are paying particular attention to gift sets that combine solid quality with distinctiveness and collectible value.
In fact, among the processed food sets featured in E-Mart's gift catalog, "collaboration sets" accounted for 86% — a higher share than single-item sets. This is more than a 20-percentage-point increase from 60% last year. In particular, companies are raising the stakes with consumers by composing sets that let people experience new recipes through product collaborations, or by creating collaboration bottles with painters, adding both practicality and collectible value.
Fruit-processing specialty brand Bokeumjari Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Hyun-taek) has released 26 kinds of jam, tea, and combination gift sets featuring its signature products, ideal for holiday gifting, along with two kinds of winter limited-edition music-box tin case gift sets designed to boost collectible value.
Featuring a warm tea paired with sweet jam at a reasonable price, the sets broaden the range of choice, allowing shoppers to pick gifts suited to any recipient — from parents to friends, romantic partners, or nieces and nephews — regardless of age.
In particular, Bokeumjari Tea No. 24 combines fruit tea with a leaf-tea collaboration, adding leaf tea to fruit tea for a richer, more enjoyable recipe that enhances its collectible value. The fruit tea comes in a mason jar, which offers the added benefit of being reusable for personal purposes once the tea is finished. Bokeumjari gift sets are available at Lotte Department Store and online malls.
The Bokeumjari Snowball Music Box Tin Case gift set, which pairs the brand's popular jam and fruit tea with a snow-globe music box, is a popular gift choice. In particular, its winter-scenery case design and music-box melody evoke a romantic wintry sentiment. Sets A and B are each limited to 5,000 units and sold online.
Franchise Korean blending-tea cafe Ogada (CEO Choi Seung-yoon) has launched a limited-edition Lunar New Year gift set produced through an art collaboration with Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung.
The five kinds of "Kim Hyun Jung Art Collaboration Lunar New Year Limited Edition Gift Set" each pair Ogada's signature blending teas with an Ogada tea bottle, allowing customers to enjoy blending tea anytime, anywhere. Kim Hyun Jung's collaborative artwork is applied to the gift box for added distinction.
In addition, William Grant & Sons Korea (CEO Kim Il-joo) is presenting a Glenfiddich single-malt whisky Lunar New Year gift set. Coffee chain Tom N Toms has unveiled nine kinds of "2017 Lunar New Year Gift Sets."
The lineup ranges from Tom N Toms' signature liquid coffee and hand-drip coffee to the "Tom N Toms Winter Edition Set," available only for this year's Lunar New Year.
