The film 'Alita' has unveiled its rendering of Alita completed in ink and watercolor.
The film 'Alita: Battle Angel,' which tells the story of a cyborg girl who has lost her memory in the 26th century, has unveiled a collaboration piece with painter Kim Hyun Jung titled 'Kim Hyun Jung's Alita.' Kim Hyun Jung has been communicating with the public through original works that preserve the beauty of Korean painting while capturing a contemporary sensibility.
In particular, having proven her presence by being named one of Forbes Asia's '30 Under 30' influential young leaders in 2017, artist Kim Hyun Jung has captured attention not only in Korea but around the world. This distinctive 'Kim Hyun Jung's Alita,' which fully retains the original Korean beauty of the artist often called 'the idol of Korean painting,' draws attention for its unconventional depiction of Alita in hanbok.
The elegant hanbok, through which Alita's high-tech suit is fully visible, is rendered in ink and watercolor for a perfect harmony. It also creates a witty contrast between Alita's image as a formidable warrior wielding a sword and her image as a bright girl wearing hair rollers while clutching the hem of her skirt.
Here, the landscape-painting background that captures Korean beauty conveys a refined atmosphere, further highlighting Alita in hanbok. Moreover, the 'floating city' within the landscape background reinterprets the futuristic 26th-century city in a Korean style, adding a special charm.
In this way, the striking visual of 'Kim Hyun Jung's Alita,' which captures the charms of East and West in a single frame, is heightening prospective moviegoers' interest.
Meanwhile, a collaborative exhibition between 'Alita: Battle Angel' and painter Kim Hyun Jung, offering a full view of the artwork's creative process including 'Kim Hyun Jung's Alita,' will be held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University starting on the 25th.
This exhibition will further heighten prospective moviegoers' interest, as it reveals the behind-the-scenes story of the work's creation along with a special message from artist Kim Hyun Jung. In this way, 'Kim Hyun Jung's Alita,' which captures both Alita's girlish charm and her warrior spirit at once, is expected to captivate audiences with the free-spirited, dynamic appeal of artist Kim Hyun Jung, who is loved by the public for her work.
Meanwhile, the film 'Alita: Battle Angel' is set to open on February 5.
