Poly News reported that Woori Card's “Card Jeongseok” series surpassed 3 million cards issued in less than a year since launch, setting an industry record for the fastest time to reach that mark for a single product series. CEO Jung Won-jae's incorporation of Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung's artwork into the card design and his fresh marketing efforts, including a web drama, were cited as keys to the card's success, and Woori Card reported plans to launch a new product, “Card Jeongseok WOWRI,” on April 1.

CEO Jung Won-jae's flagship product, the “Card Jeongseok” series at Woori Card, has surpassed 3 million cards issued. CEO Jung's design strategy and web-drama marketing appear to have contributed to the card's popularity.

Woori Card announced on the 29th that the Card Jeongseok series has surpassed 3 million cards issued in less than a year since launch — an industry record for the fastest time for a single product series in terms of sales volume.

A Woori Card representative said, “This series uses big-data analysis and consumer research to eliminate the factors that made cardholders' lives inconvenient, and includes simple yet solid discount and accumulation benefits as a foundation,” adding, “We also reflected shifting payment trends by offering additional benefits for simple-payment service use, enhancing user convenience and making benefits easy to feel.”

According to Woori Card, CEO Jung paid special attention to the design of the Card Jeongseok series. He had Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung's artwork incorporated into the cards to highlight Korean beauty, and added a notch shaped like the Korean consonant ‘ㄱ’ to the upper right of the plate to improve usability. The surface also uses varied coloring in places, with the product name arranged vertically. The design of the Card Jeongseok series received a design patent last October.

CEO Jung also pursued fresh approaches in marketing and branding. In April last year, he held a design-collaboration exhibition with artist Kim Hyun Jung to introduce the new products, and also produced advertisements using an “artvertising” technique making use of her work.

The company also unveiled a web drama, “Work & Love Balance,” late last year. The drama has since surpassed 3.7 million cumulative views on YouTube.

To mark the first anniversary of Card Jeongseok's launch and its 3-million milestone, Woori Card will launch a new product, “Card Jeongseok WOWRI,” on the 1st of next month. The card offers 0.8% back on spending at all merchants, and 5.0% to 1.0% back in points for categories customers frequently use.

Woori Card is also running an event to mark the 3-million milestone for Card Jeongseok. Throughout next month, all Woori Card customers can receive one sweepstakes entry for every 100,000 won spent. Through a drawing, a total of 300 winners will receive prizes including a 3-million-won travel voucher (1 winner), Samsung foldable phones (3 winners), BALMUDA The Pure air purifiers (15 winners), and 10,000 Woori Card points (281 winners).

A Woori Card representative said, “Going forward, we will keep thinking about how to deliver customized services tailored to customer needs, while continuing to build sophisticated, youthful branding.”

Further details on the products and event can be found on the Woori Card website or mobile app.
