Hankook Ilbo reported that the Seoul Metropolitan Government would hold a bell-ringing ceremony at noon on August 15, 2019, at Bosingak Bell Pavilion in Jongno to mark the 74th anniversary of Korea's liberation. It reported that comfort woman survivor Lee Ok-seon, descendants of independence activists, and U-20 national football team coach Chung Jung-yong were among 14 people selected to ring the bell, along with painter and Seoul Metropolitan Government publicity ambassador Kim Hyun Jung. Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and others would also join in three groups to ring the bell.

Comfort woman survivor Lee Ok-seon (92) will ring the bell to mark Liberation Day.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 14th that it would hold a bell-ringing ceremony at noon on the 15th, marking the 74th anniversary of Korea's liberation, at Bosingak Bell Pavilion in Jongno. This year, 14 people including Lee Ok-seon; Hosaka Yuji (63), director of Sejong University's Dokdo Research Institute, who has argued for 21 years that 'Dokdo is Korean territory'; and Byun Mi-sol (18), who has performed the flute 218 times next to the Statue of Peace over the past seven years, will ring the bell.
Also participating in the bell-ringing are Hwang In-sun (80), wife of independence activist Choi Gi-ok; Park Seung-cheol (76), grandson of independence activist Park Gyeong-ju; Chu Myeong-gil (73), grandson of independence activist Chu Yong-man; Jang Gyu-bok (65), son of independence activist Jang Gyeong; Jeon Yeong-bok (60), grandson of independence activist Jeon Hae-san; and Nam Tae-ho (50), grandson of independence activist Lee Sun-gu.
Also selected as bell-ringers are Chung Jung-yong, coach of Korea's Under-20 national football team, the first Korean men's team to reach a FIFA-sanctioned tournament final, and painter Kim Hyun Jung, a Seoul Metropolitan Government publicity ambassador whom US business magazine Forbes named to its '30 Under 30 Asia 2017' list.
Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Seoul Metropolitan Council Speaker Shin Won-cheol, and Jongno-gu Mayor Kim Young-jong will also ring the bell. Divided into three groups, they will each strike the bell 11 times, for a total of 33 rings.
