The Korean Cultural Center in Egypt (Director Yang Sang-geun) announced on November 5 that it is holding "Culture Talk," an online interview series inviting three artists who represent Korea's contemporary artistic spirit in fine art, music and fashion.

The event moves beyond content like K-pop, which has traditionally drawn the most interest from overseas Korean-wave fans, to focus on Korea's competitive basic arts, aiming to give a balanced introduction to the diversity and excellence of Korean culture.

Starting with Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung on November 4, interview videos of violinist Danny Koo on November 11 and designer Danha on November 18 in the music and design fields, respectively, will be released via the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt's YouTube channel.

Kim Hyun Jung, an artist selected by Forbes in 2017 for its "30 Under 30 Asia" list, has drawn attention for her new-style genre paintings such as "Woman Eating Ramyeon in a Hanbok." Violinist Danny Koo has earned fame for his young, sophisticated performances, and designer Danha is known as the designer behind the hanbok stage outfits worn by the K-pop group BLACKPINK.

In the first video released on the 4th, Kim Hyun Jung candidly shared what led her to choose Korean painting and her own artistic world, connecting with Egyptian fans as she recalled riding a camel to see the Egyptian pyramids as a child. She also expressed her hope to interpret Egyptian women and marriage customs through her paintings.

In the videos to be released on November 11 and 18, violinist Danny Koo will perform an Egyptian national song directly on the violin, and designer Danha will introduce the process behind her collaboration with BLACKPINK, drawing the attention of local K-pop fans.

Yang Sang-geun, director of the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt, said, "This year, holding offline events has been difficult due to COVID-19, but a new environment has opened up in which we can invite Korean artists we might not otherwise have easily hosted, through online events," adding, "We plan to continue developing various kinds of online content to highlight the diversity and excellence of Korean culture."
