Edaily | ‘Jung Won-jae Card’ Tops 1 Million Cards in Five Months
Edaily reported on August 30, 2018 that Woori Card's flagship 'Card Principle' series topped 1 million cards sold five months after launch. The article introduced CEO Jung Won-jae as having personally directed everything from product planning to marketing, earning the card the nickname 'Jung Won-jae Card,' and cited the visual effect — created by incorporating Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung's work into the card design so it appears set in a frame — as a driver of its popularity. The accompanying photo shows Jung Won-jae and Kim Hyun Jung at the 'Card Principle POINT Special Exhibition' held last April at Insa Art Center in Insa-dong, Seoul.

[Edaily, Reporter Yoo Hyun-wook] Woori Card's 'Card Principle' series has topped 1 million cards sold five months after launch. The series is also known as the 'Jung Won-jae Card' because CEO Jung Won-jae personally directed everything from product planning to design and marketing strategy.
Woori Card announced on the 30th, "Since launching 'Card Principle Point' last April, followed by Discount, Shopping and L Point, we have sold a total of 1 million cards in five months."
The keys to its popularity are cited as △ industry-leading accrual and discount benefits, △ bold extra benefits in categories customers use frequently, and △ card design that fuses art and finance.
In particular, as the industry's first such approach, the card drew favorable reviews for using works by painter Kim Hyun Jung to capture Korean beauty in its design. The card plate surface is also given a special finish so the artwork appears set in a frame, and a 'ㄱ'-shaped notch is placed at the top right to make it easier to pull the card out of a wallet.
A Woori Card official said, "Despite the challenging environment in the industry recently, we are deeply grateful for the enthusiastic response our customers have shown 'Card Principle,'" adding, "We will continue to repay our customers with good products that reflect their needs and market trends."
