30 Promising Koreans Under 30

Forbes Asia has selected 300 promising young leaders under 30 who are drawing attention across the Asia-Pacific region.

Among them, we introduce the 30 promising Koreans. The youngest is 17.

Lim Hyung-chul, Choi Go-eun (26, 25) | Co-founders, Gameberry

Lim Hyung-chul and Choi Go-eun, co-CEOs of Gameberry, dropped out of university to pursue their startup dream, founding Gameberry as a mobile game developer in 2011. But after discovering a large gap between app publishers and advertisers, they pivoted to become an app marketing agency. Gameberry then began offering free marketing services on behalf of domestic app developers. While Gameberry's first platform, Jungggle, focused on matching advertisers with suitable publishers, its next project, the more powerful JungggleX, is designed to devise optimal traffic strategies for advertisers. "Money was being wasted because of poor-quality traffic," says CEO Lim Hyung-chul. "We feel rewarded when, through our technology, data, and platform, advertisers earn more revenue with the same budget." Gameberry, which has generated $3 million in revenue so far, expects $5 million in revenue next year.

The works of Kim Hyun Jung, 'the idol of the Oriental painting world,' often feature young, lively women in hanbok who appear to be self-portraits. She has been praised for wittily depicting women in elegant hanbok who are fully devoted to their desires.

While she owes much of her fame to social media, her popularity has recently continued offline as well. Her March 2016 solo exhibition <Naesoong Amusement Park> drew 67,402 visitors over 27 days, the highest attendance ever for a solo exhibition by a Korean artist. In an interview with Forbes Korea, Kim said, "I communicated with the public through SNS and made emoticons, and at times I doubted whether this was the right path, but after being selected for this '30 Under 30' list, I felt, 'I wasn't wrong after all.'" She added, "I'm honored to be the first from the fine art world selected, and I will work even harder with a sense of mission as a female artist."
