"A credit card is truly a gallery you carry with you every day, so as an artist, it's an honor to have my work featured on a card for the first time." (painter Kim Hyun Jung)
On the afternoon of the 4th, Woori Card held a special exhibition of Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung's work at the Insa Art Center in Insa-dong, Seoul. Kim, celebrated for her fresh ideas and subject matter, was chosen to design Woori Card's new product 'Card of Standards POINT' (hereafter Card of Standards), launched on the 2nd.
The exhibition was arranged specially by Woori Card to showcase Kim's signature works alongside the process behind the design decisions.
After taking office in January, Woori Card CEO Jeong Won-jae poured great care not only into the product's name but also its design while developing 'Card of Standards.' "With Korean culture (hallyu) so popular worldwide, I wanted to bring Korean beauty into the card as well," Jeong said. "While looking for a contemporary artist's work to feature on the card, Kim Hyun Jung was recommended to me."
Kim said, "Since 'Card of Standards' targets people of all ages and genders, I agonized a great deal over the design — I sent over some 100 drafts."
'Card of Standards' features Kim's work 'Excess Is as Bad as Deficiency,' chosen to reflect the product's intent of encouraging wise rather than reckless spending. It was printed so the artwork would be clearly visible.
Woori Card plans to continue collaborating with Kim on future products. "The next card will focus more on providing direct benefits like discounts," Jeong said, "and for the design, we'll choose a work that is more direct and straightforward as well."
