“The 'Naesoong' series began as a painting born from depression”
[Economy Talk = reporter Wang Jin-woo] The 'idol of the art world,' Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung (28), headed out as a busker for 'Speak Your Mind,' dressed in hanbok.
On the day, painter Kim Hyun Jung captured everyone's attention during the introductory segment, drawing praise that she “looks like she just stepped out of a beauty painting.” Kim, who said she “enjoys wearing hanbok even in everyday life,” shared anecdotes about her love of hanbok.
MC Yoo Hee-yeol said, “Hanbok is something people like us should wear,” joking that as someone with “short legs,” hanbok seems to be the perfect outfit for him — sending everyone into laughter.
Meanwhile, at the busking held at the east gate plaza of COEX, painter Kim Hyun Jung opened by saying, “Even excrement and blood can become works of art,” and revealed the 'key words' for understanding contemporary art.
She also shared 'tips for visiting a museum' that no one had ever told citizens before, who had thought of art as something difficult, quenching their curiosity.
She went on to reveal that the 'Naesoong' series, which made her who she is today, actually “began as a painting born from depression.”
She said that back when she used to think every day, “I want to die, I don't want to live,” she started posting one painting at a time on social media, and “thanks to netizens who sent messages of encouragement after seeing them, I was able to overcome my depression,” expressing her gratitude.
Having wrapped up a successful busking as 'the woman who reads art for you,' Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung's 'different kind of busking' will air at 9:30 p.m. on November 2.
