Against the backdrop of beautiful Andong Lake in full bloom of spring, Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung's exhibition 'Naesoong, Spring Story' will be held at Yekki Village in Andong.
Kim Hyun Jung is well known as an artist who paints women wearing hanbok, the clothing representative of traditional culture, and has won much love for her fun, meaningful 'Naesoong series,' which uses traditional Oriental painting techniques to realistically depict figures and reinterprets genre painting in a contemporary way.
Her works have also been included in nine sets of elementary, middle, and high school art textbooks, and in 2017 she became the first Korean art figure to be selected for the U.S. business magazine Forbes' 'Asia's 30 Under 30' list. She was also invited to hold a special exhibition at the 'Special Exhibition for the Establishment of Kimchi Day' at the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. in 2023, making her a young artist leading the globalization of the new Korean Wave in the field of art.
This exhibition is expected to offer visitors a special moment through around 20 representative works by Kim Hyun Jung, who is regarded as a rising star of the Korean art world, drawing attention for the boldness of her fresh ideas, subject matter, and expressive techniques.
'Naesoong, Spring Story,' prepared as a program to revitalize tourism in the Dosan region, is Kim Hyun Jung's second regional exhibition. It is expected to present a direction for Andong, a city of traditional culture, to move toward, and to lend meaning to the 'reinterpretation and popularization of traditional culture.'
Starting with an opening event at 11 a.m. on the 15th at the village gallery Geunmindang, the artist will also give a lecture in person.
Synergy is also expected with the 'Yekki Village Flower Festival, Yekki Village Blooms Beautifully in Spring' festival, and the exhibition is expected to offer visitors to Yekki Village a fresh memory of encountering the mysterious charm of Korean painting.
'Naesoong, Spring Story' will continue for two weeks at the village gallery Geunmindang until the 28th.
