Ten Perspectives Leading Korean Contemporary Art... Gallery U.H.M Holds 'Watch 10 Artists'

Gallery U.H.M, located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, will hold the special exhibition 'Watch 10 Artists' from May 6 to May 20. The exhibition offers a single venue to survey the diverse currents and formal languages of Korean contemporary art, and is expected to show the present state and expansive possibilities of Korean art through the perspectives of ten artists who are actively working in the contemporary art scene.

Ten artists take part in the exhibition: Kwon Ki-soo, Kim Hyun Jung, Shin Young-jin, Ahn Jin-eui, Yoo Yong-sang, Lee Gye-won, Jung Young-han, Jung Chang-gyun, Ha Jung-min, and Heo Jin. Having each built distinct artistic worlds, they will present an exhibition centered on large-scale works spanning a broad spectrum -- from painting and public art to the fusion of tradition and the contemporary -- expected to reveal the multilayered face of Korean contemporary art.

Beyond a simple group show, this exhibition carries meaning in showing how artists with differing formal languages and aesthetic attitudes view and interpret contemporary Korean society and art. Each work explores the human being, nature, society, emotion, and cultural identity in its own way, and is expected to offer visitors deep reflection and a powerful visual resonance.

Kwon Ki-soo is recognized as an artist who has built an original body of work combining Korean sensibility with a contemporary sensibility, centered on his signature character 'Donguri.' Through a symbolic, concise form, he unpacks narratives of life and emotion, drawing attention for work that encompasses both popular appeal and artistic merit.

Kim Hyun Jung is an artist who reinterprets hanbok through a contemporary aesthetic, painting the identity of Korean culture. Through delicate figure depiction and lyrical composition, she has expanded Korean beauty into a contemporary language, and continues to steadily build her presence in the art world at home and abroad.

Shin Young-jin has continued a painting practice with philosophical depth, grounded in deep reflection on humanity, nature, and social relationships. Through restrained form and tension-filled compositions, he conveys reflections on existence and time.

Ahn Jin-eui is an artist who has explored a new visual language for contemporary art through various media and formal experimentation, presenting the possibilities of contemporary formative art by originally unpacking the relationships between space, form, and color.

Yoo Yong-sang has developed a body of work that connects art, culture, and the sensibilities of life, taking wine as his central motif. He expands the symbols of everyday life through sensory color and composition, presenting work that flexibly crosses the boundary between art and lifestyle.

Lee Gye-won is an artist who has continued in-depth artistic activity grounded in a contemporary formal language and aesthetic inquiry, showing both artistic reflection and completeness through refined expression and stable composition.

Jung Young-han draws attention for a painting practice exploring the inner self of human existence and the sensibilities of the era, delicately revealing the narrative and emotion of life through sensory color and formal rhythm.

Jung Chang-gyun is an artist who has built his own original formal world through a variety of expressive methods and media experiments, expanding the expressive possibilities of contemporary art by crossing the boundaries of form and material.

Ha Jung-min has been active in the field of public art, steadily exploring the relationship between art, the city, and community. He draws attention for work that practically expands the social meaning and communal value that art holds within public space.

Heo Jin is an artist who has built his own body of work grounded in a delicate formal sensibility and deep artistic reflection. Balancing education and creative work, he has continued his artistic inquiry within contemporary art discourse.

A representative of Gallery U.H.M said, 'This exhibition brings together artists with differing artistic perspectives and formal languages in a single venue to show the colorful currents of contemporary Korean art,' adding, 'We hope visitors can deeply experience the artists' perspectives and artistic messages through the works.'

Meanwhile, the exhibition 'Watch 10 Artists' runs from Wednesday, May 6, 2026 through Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Gallery U.H.M, with an opening ceremony at 3 p.m. on May 6. The venue is located on the 4th floor of the main building of the Daewon Jeongsa Building, 49 Dutubawi-ro 60-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
