[Xports News, Reporter Kim Hyun Jung] A pierced elephant, a zebra with eyeshadow, a bear with a nail-art manicure on its paw — artist Kim Hyun Jung's 'Tremor,' which expresses the imaginative visions that come to her while listening to music as animals that don't exist in reality, meets the 2019 MBC Acting Awards.
MBC announced, "We are collaborating with the 'hot' Oriental painter Kim Hyun Jung, who is leading the popularization of Korean painting through her witty world of work, for the 2019 MBC Acting Awards."
Known as the 'idol of Korean painting,' artist Kim Hyun Jung is a Korean painter who has built a devoted fanbase through her witty, cathartic world of work that gives reality a slight twist — including the 'Naesoong series' and works on 'marriage.' Her 2013 solo exhibition 'Naesoong Story' drew some 67,000 visitors.
In 2016, she set the record as the youngest artist invited to a solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; in 2017, she was named alongside figure skating star Kim Yuna as one of Forbes' most influential 30 people under 30 in Asia. She is beloved both at home and abroad for her uniquely distinctive world of work.
Having unveiled some 300 works to date, artist Kim Hyun Jung is also famous for her more than 50 active corporate collaborations. During a collaboration with Card Company A last year, 5 million credit cards printed with her artwork were issued.
Revealing herself as an enthusiastic fan of MBC's Wednesday-Thursday drama "The New Employee Gu Hae-ryung," which wrapped up in September, artist Kim Hyun Jung expressed her resolve, noting this is her first collaboration with broadcasting.
Artist Kim expressed her excitement, saying, "I'm happy to be able to show my work to so many viewers through the MBC Acting Awards, a beloved year-end program everyone watches."
She added, "I think of MBC as embodying 'cheerfulness.' I'll do my best to make sure MBC's distinctive cheerfulness — witty without crossing the line — comes across even more vividly through my 'Naesoong series,' where tradition and modernity meet."
At the 2019 MBC Acting Awards, around ten of artist Kim Hyun Jung's representative works will be transformed through digital work into paintings and video to greet viewers. Currently in joint production with the MBC production team, there's great anticipation for what kind of broadcast content her representative 'Naesoong series,' which carries both retro sensibility and hip modern appeal, will be transformed into at this year's MBC Acting Awards.
The MBC Acting Awards production team said, "Artist Kim Hyun Jung's work adds wit and sensibility to traditional subject matter, giving it a stylish, cool feel, much like hanbok reinterpreted for the younger generation. Through this collaboration with artist Kim for the Acting Awards, we want to convey MBC's message of continuously taking on new challenges while grounded in tradition."
The 2019 MBC Acting Awards, hosted by broadcaster Kim Seong-ju and model Han Hye-jin, will air on December 30.
