◇Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital Hosts Invitational Solo Exhibition of Korean Painter Kim Hyun Jung

Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital (director Ju Ung) is holding an invitational solo exhibition by Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung, ‘Naesoong Story’ (Naesoong: a feigned, demure-seeming manner), at ‘Art Cube’, an exhibition space inside the hospital.

The exhibition runs from September 15 to November 17. Kim Hyun Jung's ‘Naesoong Story’ is a series of works that use Asian painting techniques to depict women in beautiful hanbok enjoying modern daily life, such as eating pizza or drinking coffee.

Through it, the artist portrays the Korean sensibility of trying to strike a balance between saving face and being honest.

At the opening reception held on the 22nd, key figures including Yu Kyung-ha, director of Ewha Medical Center, and Ju Ung, director of Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital, attended and viewed the works.

Kim Hyun Jung said, “While painting Naesoong Story, I overcame my own depression and had a time of healing. I hope that patients, caregivers and staff visiting the hospital will, through these works, set down their burdens for a moment and share a time of facing the humor of everyday life.”

Meanwhile, Kim has exhibited at major institutions in Korea and abroad, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and in 2017 she was named to the U.S. business magazine Forbes' list of ‘30 Under 30 Asia’, honoring the 30 most influential people in Asia under the age of 30.
