Kim Hyun Jung x Nescafe

A scent is invisible, yet it can transform the landscape of the heart in an instant. Even a single cup of coffee can, at times, carry you to another time.

Naesoong: A Fragrant Tremble is a work that translates the sensation of coffee into paint, made in collaboration with Nescafe. Coffee reaches us through scent before taste, and a single familiar aroma is enough to instantly awaken memory and imagination. In place of where a traditional gache (hair ornament) would sit, the artist stacked images of coffee beans and coffee itself, capturing the moment an invisible scent blooms inside the mind.

The thrill of a single cup of coffee goes beyond the simple pleasure of taste, carrying the mind, for a moment, to another time and place. The finished work being made into a tumbler and entering everyday life was, likewise, born of the hope that art could awaken the senses even outside the gallery walls.
