Woori Card launched 'Card Basics POINT,' offering the industry's best point-earning rate, as the first product from CEO Jung Won-jae, who took office this January.
'Card Basics POINT' is characterized by pursuing both practicality and innovation, carrying the messages of 'communication,' staying true to the fundamentals, and 'adaptability,' pursuing new approaches. It offers a base 0.8% point-earning rate across all categories, the industry's best, with unlimited accrual once the previous month's spending reaches 300,000 won. On top of that, it offers extra rewards in categories customers frequently use: telecom, public transit, and EV charging at 5%; coffee and movies at 3%; department stores, discount marts, online shopping, gas, and overseas purchases at 1% — up to 5% of the amount spent across 10 special categories.
It also comes with benefits for simple-pay users. Registering and paying with the card through the four major simple-pay services — Naver Pay, Kakao Pay, Payco, and SSG Pay — earns an extra 3% back, on top of whatever benefits each simple-pay service itself offers. The annual fee is 10,000 won for domestic-only use and 12,000 won for the international version.
The card has also drawn attention for being the first in the industry to apply the work of Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung, 'Gwayubulgeup.'
A Woori Card representative said, "From the product-planning stage, 'Card Basics POINT' incorporated big-data analysis as well as customer preferences and needs gathered across sales channels, and was designed so customers could easily and conveniently enjoy point-earning benefits," adding, "It surpassed 100,000 units issued just three weeks after launch, an unusually fast issuance pace compared with general-purpose cards."
