MBC's daily drama 'Family Relations Certificate' has unveiled a special collaboration with Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung.

🎨 Na Ji-ni's studio, home to Kim Hyun Jung's 'Dreaming Different Dreams in the Same Bed'

Kim Hyun Jung's work 'Dreaming Different Dreams in the Same Bed' has been placed in the studio of the lead character Na Ji-ni (played by Park Se-young). Na Ji-ni, who majored in Korean painting, is a character building her own artistic world while enduring prejudice and wounds, and her studio is an important space symbolizing her inner life and dreams.

Kim Hyun Jung's work, which reinterprets Korean painting in a contemporary way, becomes a device that shows Na Ji-ni's artistic identity and emotional arc in a more three-dimensional light. With a real Korean painting added to the drama's space, the show's mise-en-scène is enriched as well.

🖼 The screenwriter and director who each pictured the same world of work

The process behind this collaboration is notable. While writing the script, screenwriter Park Ji-hyun had already been imagining Kim Hyun Jung's work and building Na Ji-ni's artistic world around it, and director Kim Mi-sook also happened to discover the same artist's work while searching for directing references.

After realizing they had each independently referenced the same world of work, the production team directly proposed a collaboration to Kim Hyun Jung, who agreed to take part after resonating with the drama's intent and the character's setting.

🌿 A painting in a still that completes Na Ji-ni's identity

The released stills show Na Ji-ni focused on her work in the studio. Behind her, absorbed in painting with a serious expression, Kim Hyun Jung's 'Dreaming Different Dreams in the Same Bed' is naturally placed, further enriching the atmosphere of the space.

The intense working scene, combined with warm colors and delicate sensibility, lends persuasive weight to Na Ji-ni's artistic identity. As the paths of Na Ji-ni — who dreams of becoming a world-class K-animation artist — and the aesthetics of Korean painting come together, the direction of the character's growth also becomes clearer.

✨ A collaboration that conveys the beauty of Korean painting

The production team said, "We are grateful to artist Kim Hyun Jung for readily allowing this collaboration," adding, "The work plays a major role not only in expressing Na Ji-ni's artistic world, but also her inner wounds and her will to overcome them. We hope this collaboration becomes an opportunity to naturally convey the beauty of Korean painting to viewers."

This collaboration connects the character's narrative with an actual Korean painting to heighten visual completeness. At the same time, it shows the possibility of K-content and traditional art breathing together within a single frame. Let us know in the comments what you think of Kim Hyun Jung's 'Dreaming Different Dreams in the Same Bed,' added to Na Ji-ni's studio.
