On December 6, 2018 (Thursday) at noon, the Seoul Metropolitan Government held the 2018 Seoul Publicity Ambassador Appointment Ceremony under the theme "People Who Love Seoul and Tell Seoul's Story" at Sewoon Hall in Sewoon Arcade, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Seoul considers communication with citizens its top priority in city administration, and Seoul Publicity Ambassadors are those who serve as the bridge for that communication. The 11 newly appointed publicity ambassadors are experts from a wide range of fields including broadcasting, architecture, culture, and the arts, and are expected to do their best to promote Seoul and its city administration as representatives of citizens' dreams and hopes.
The newly appointed publicity ambassadors, each standing out in their respective fields with diverse activities, are Song Jiho, Yoo Hyun-joon, Jung Saem-mool, Jung Gun-young, Park Ji-ho, Park Jin-hee, Yang Tae-o, Kim Hyun Jung, Yura, Myung Min-ho, and (G)I-DLE — 11 in total.
They include menswear fashion designer Song Jiho, who has served as chairman of the Korea Fashion Designers Association and widely promotes Korean fashion culture to the world; architect Yoo Hyun-joon, who connects spaces with people under the belief that architecture is people; and makeup artist Jung Saem-mool, who seeks out distinctive beauty rather than beauty that merely follows trends,
as well as multi-percussionist Jung Gun-young, who freely handles various percussion instruments and communicates through music with those in society's blind spots; magazine editor-in-chief Park Ji-ho, who draws empathy through sincere writing and content; actress Park Jin-hee, who conveys good messages with interest in various areas of social welfare such as the environment and sharing; and interior designer Yang Tae-o, who introduces Korean beauty to the world and leads in preserving the value of tradition,
as well as Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung, who wittily unfolds a 21st-century genre painting under the theme of "the Naesoong story"; Girl's Day's Yura, beloved for her vibrant charm across music, acting, and variety shows; illustrator Myung Min-ho, who translates the warmth of everyday moments into drawings; and rookie idol group (G)I-DLE, who have won great love immediately after their debut with skills that belie their newcomer status. As Seoul Publicity Ambassadors, they are each expected to be able to carry out steady, ongoing activities in their respective fields going forward.

At this appointment ceremony, plaques of appreciation were given to those who actively participated in Seoul Publicity Ambassador activities and led city administration promotion throughout 2018.
The recipients of the plaques of appreciation were broadcaster Park Soo-hong, who has steadily served as the emcee of offline events such as talk concerts with citizens since his appointment in 2016 and was especially willing to take part in producing various promotional materials this year; model Jang Yoon-ju, who formed a bond through the Seoul "Tomorrow Institute" commercial in 2017 and willingly shared her experiences and values with citizens by participating in the "Seoul Children's Press Corps Appointment Ceremony" and the Seoul brand relay video "Your and My Seoul Story"; and announcer Lee Eon-kyung, who actively participated in various city promotion events including the 119 Firefighting Children's Song Contest, the Liberation Day concert with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Hangul Day poetry readings, and the 2018 Youth Hope Festival.
※ Yang Tae-o, (G)I-DLE, Park Soo-hong, and Jang Yoon-ju did not attend the appointment ceremony due to personal schedules.
Also, actor Choi Bul-am (appointed in 1998), the longest-serving Seoul Publicity Ambassador who received a plaque of appreciation last year, attended this ceremony to congratulate the newly appointed junior publicity ambassadors and offer words of encouragement for their future activities.

The appointment ceremony, starting at noon, began with a video introducing the publicity ambassadors' past activities and the newly appointed ambassadors, followed by the presentation of plaques of appreciation and appointment plaques, and a time to hear about future activity plans. Afterward, a private luncheon prepared directly by the Seoul Metropolitan Government took place, and the event concluded with a group commemorative photo of all the publicity ambassadors.
Starting with this appointment ceremony on the 6th, in 2019 the city plans to promote Seoul Publicity Ambassador activities through more diverse programs and channels, and to open a deeper forum for citizen communication.
As Seoul Publicity Ambassadors have continuously participated in producing city promotion materials, media interviews through various outlets, and offline events for direct communication with citizens, the city is also planning group photo shoots, talk concerts, campaigns, and sharing/volunteer activities that bring citizens closer to their everyday lives, as newly appointed experts from each field join the existing publicity ambassadors.
Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon said, "Those willing to generously share their precious talents and abilities for the citizens of Seoul have gathered here under the name of Seoul Publicity Ambassadors. I hope that together with these wonderful people who will represent the dreams and hopes of our citizens, we can build a Seoul where citizens are happy."
