Woori Card announced on the 13th that its flagship product Kadeu-ui Jeongseok had surpassed 2 million cards issued, buoyed by customer support.
Woori Card unveiled its first product, 'Kadeu-ui Jeongseok POINT,' this past April, drawing attention by passing 1 million cards issued five months after launch. The pace of issuance then climbed even more steeply, reaching 2 million cards in under nine months. A Woori Card representative said, “This is a pace with virtually no precedent for a general-purpose card, and the fastest in Woori Card's history.”
The success of Kadeu-ui Jeongseok is the result of thoroughly reflecting the ‘customer-first mindset’ that Woori Card CEO Jeong Won-jae has consistently emphasized, across every stage — product planning, service design, and card design. It reflects a shift in thinking: rather than building a product that has to be sold, the goal was to create a product that sells itself.
A Woori Card representative explained, “Through big data analysis, we packed in industry-leading accumulation and discount benefits optimized for changing customer needs and spending patterns, and adapted a work by Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung to create a design that anyone would want on their card.”
A ‘ㄱ’-shaped notch was placed in the upper right corner of the card’s surface to improve both its visual appeal and ease of use, while varying the coloring across sections of the card created a distinctive vertical-stripe effect that sets it apart. The card’s name was arranged vertically, completing an artistic design reminiscent of a Korean painting. This design led to the card being granted a design patent in October, once again proving its originality.
New attempts to engage customers in playful ways — including exhibitions by Kim Hyun Jung, known for her fresh ideas and painting style, advertisements using an ‘artvertising’ technique built around her artwork, and events featuring cookies and craft beer — also helped raise the brand value of Kadeu-ui Jeongseok and supported its success.
Compared with existing general-purpose card products, Kadeu-ui Jeongseok shows roughly 10% higher usage rates and per-person spending, contributing to both an increase in new members and an expanded market share. With premium and mileage-type cards also slated for release, the strong sales momentum is expected to continue.
A Woori Card representative said, “Thanks to the affection our customers have shown Kadeu-ui Jeongseok and the hard work of our staff — including those at Woori Bank branches — we were able to achieve meaningful results despite a difficult market environment. We will keep working to make this a card that customers in daily life truly want to have and want to use.”
