TV Chosun covered an exhibition by Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung, who drew attention with such original ideas as women in hanbok carrying luxury handbags or riding snowboards. The women in her paintings are confessional self-portraits projecting the artist herself, capturing the small, everyday moments she encounters while living life in hanbok. Through her widely popular "Naesung" series, she communicates with her audience, even personally explaining her works to fans who visit the exhibition.
"I have a lot of female fans, and they seem to feel very at ease looking at the work — I think they sense that they have that side to themselves too. I dream of a society where art and the public breathe together," the artist said.
For this exhibition, "Naesung Winter Story," she painted a woman facing winter in a thin hanbok, and even produced a figurine identical to the character in the painting using a 3D printer. The artist reportedly poured so much passion into the project that she took the time to separately learn the new technology involved.
