Kim Hyun Jung x MBC Drama Awards

I never imagined I would one day stand on a red carpet with my own painting as the backdrop.

The art collaboration with the MBC Drama Awards on December 30, 2019, centered on Marriage: Worlds Apart and the installation piece Square M – Communication. Marriage: Worlds Apart borrows from the grand classical composition of Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam to contrast the two worlds faced by women of our era, making it the largest and most complex narrative work in the Naesoong series. The painting was used for the main award ceremony poster, award envelopes, tickets, and photo wall, and the artist’s works were woven into the opening videos throughout the ceremony through AR technology. The artist also walked the red carpet as a presenter alongside comedians Hong Yoon-hwa and Hong Hyun-hee to announce the ‘Viewers’ Choice Drama of the Year.’

Watching the figures in the painting come alive and lift the mood of the ceremony confirmed, for the artist, a new possibility for Korean painting.
