Inner Portrait

"It's nice."

Such an ordinary, seemingly unremarkable phrase, yet it lingers strangely on my lips.

The scent of cherry blossoms, carried on air still a little chilly, stirs an odd excitement in me.

Perhaps because I know I can't enjoy them for long, or because of the wistful color of the petals, all kinds of emotions well up.

No less striking than the sight of them in bloom is the sight of them falling.

The unusually thin petals scatter and flutter down, one by one.

It almost feels like an illusion of snow falling in the warmth of spring.

As if announcing spring, they seem to decorate it splendidly along with the shimmering heat haze, but once the spring rain falls, only green leaves remain.

The time to enjoy cherry blossoms is far too short.
