Woori Card held a special exhibition of Oriental painter Kim Hyun Jung's work at the Insa Art Center in Insa-dong, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 4th. Kim, who has gained popularity for rendering fresh ideas and themes in ink-wash painting, was responsible for the design of Woori Card's new product 'Card-ui-jeongseok POINT' (Card-ui-jeongseok), launched on the 2nd. Woori Card specially arranged this exhibition to show the public Kim's representative works alongside the process behind the design decision.

President Jeong Won-jae, who took office last January, put great care not only into the product's name but also its design when creating Card-ui-jeongseok. President Jeong said, "As Hallyu gains popularity worldwide, I wanted to carry the beauty of Korea on a card as well," adding, "While looking to feature the work of a contemporary artist on the card, Ms. Kim was recommended to me."

Kim said, "Since Card-ui-jeongseok is our flagship card targeting all age groups and genders, I agonized a lot over the design," adding, "I sent over 100 draft designs."

Card-ui-jeongseok uses Kim's work 'Gwayubulgeup.' This reflects the launch intent of encouraging wise spending rather than excessive spending. To make the artwork clearly visible, even the membership number, English name, and Woori Card logo were moved to the back of the card. The idea was to give customers the feeling of carrying not just a card, but a piece of art in their wallet.

Introducing the 'Artvertising' technique to visually show the card's commitment to being the 'standard' was very much President Jeong's own initiative. Artvertising, a portmanteau of art and advertising, refers to advertising in which artistic elements such as visual art or music play a central role. President Jeong said, "60% of card sales go through the bank," adding, "I thought that if bank branch staff, when signing customers up for cards, had a story to talk about through the card rather than simply handing it over, it would help communication with customers."

Woori Card plans to continue releasing future products in collaboration with Kim. President Jeong said, "The next card will focus on providing direct benefits like discounts," adding, "the design will also feature more intuitive, direct artwork."
