Woori Card has shown a notable trajectory since President Jeong Won-jae took office last year. Newly launched products have delivered results, and new changes attempted within the company have also drawn positive evaluations.
Woori Card first unveiled its 'Card-ui-Jeongseok' series in April of last year. This series is the first outcome since President Jeong emphasized the need for new products in his inaugural address.
Regarding the background of the launch, a Woori Card official explained, "We needed a hit product that reflected market and customer trends while also boosting sales at major retail sectors." The official added, "Through developing the 'Card-ui-Jeongseok' series, we also sought to raise brand awareness for Woori Card."
At the time, Woori Card touted "accrual and discount benefits optimized for changing customer needs and consumption patterns identified through big data analysis." On the design side too, it drew on the work of Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung to give the card originality.
In this way, by launching products such as 'Card-ui-Jeongseok Cookie Check' and 'Card-ui-Jeongseok WOWRI,' the company focused on customers' ages and lifestyles, showing an effort to diversify its brand.
As a result, the 'Card-ui-Jeongseok' series surpassed 1 million cards issued just five months after launch. It then surpassed 2 million cards in December of last year, and recorded 3 million cards this past March. Alongside this, the company achieved a net profit of 126.5 billion won last year.
Amid this, there were also changes within the company. A representative move was the blanket conversion of 180 non-regular workers to regular employment last February. At the time, a Woori Card official said, "Despite the difficult management environment, management judged that solid internal cohesion built on trust between labor and management — rather than sacrifices made to cut costs — is the strength that will help us navigate this year's difficult conditions for card companies."
Along with this, Woori Card also appears to be focusing on digital capabilities. On the 23rd, a Woori Card official told Sisa Oneul in a phone call, "Last year, we internally established a big data team and are using it for product development through customer management," adding, "In February of this year, we launched a chatbot system and are focusing on online customer service."
Surpassing 3 million cards for 'Card-ui-Jeongseok,' converting non-regular workers to regular employment, and strengthening digital capabilities are together seen as "the picture of a 'jeongseok' (textbook approach) that simultaneously secures performance, internal cohesion, and substance."
In his inaugural address in January of last year, President Jeong Won-jae laid out seven management keywords: diversifying revenue structure, expanding the customer base, strengthening market dominance, risk management and compliance with laws and principles, digital process innovation, fulfilling corporate social responsibility, and an organizational culture of communication and flexibility.
The keywords President Jeong mentioned seem to be steadily becoming reality. At the same time, his leadership is once again drawing attention.
