Artist Kim Hyun Jung's (photo) invitational exhibition '(New) Portrait of a Beauty on Horseback' is being held at Let's Run Park Seoul Horse Museum, located on Gyeongma Gongwon-daero in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province. Running through the 29th, the exhibition presents horse-and-woman paintings with humorous titles such as 'Riding a Horse,' 'A Woman Is a Horse,' 'Somma-time,' and 'A Word of Congratulations.' Also on view are works such as 'Naesung: The One Who Moves Me' and 'Naesung: The Highway of Life,' featuring cars, motorcycles, and other modern vehicles that replace the horse.

Rising artist Kim Hyun Jung is earning praise in this exhibition for unfolding the life and sentiments of contemporary people through delicate depiction and humor and wit rooted in Joseon-era genre painting, using horses and beauties as her subject. In the works, women in hanbok, indifferent to the decorum, rituals, and attitudes their attire implies, hike up their skirts to gallop full-speed on horseback, or mount motorcycles — typically seen as the domain of tough men.

Artist Kim said, "The desire shown by the women in these works will offer catharsis to those ordinarily confined within social norms," adding, "This exhibition project, introducing the horse, a warm living creature, was a new source of stimulation and change."
