In 2013, cosmetics brand ARTISTRY, as official sponsor of the Busan International Film Festival, ran the "ARTIST×ARTISTRY Gallery Project," with Kim Hyun Jung joining as one of five emerging female artists, representing Korean painting. She presented a work reinterpreting "Woman's Most Beautiful Moment" as the moment a woman faces herself in the mirror while applying makeup, conveying the message that a woman is most beautiful precisely when she makes an honest effort to cultivate her beauty. Woman's Most Beautiful Moment

ARTIST × ARTISTRY Gallery Project

For the second year running, ARTISTRY — official sponsor of the Busan International Film Festival — has selected five emerging female artists as the "ARTISTRY Forward Beauty Group" and, together with actor Choi Daniel, is supporting their creative work. The resulting "ARTIST×ARTISTRY Gallery Project" will give many women a chance to experience forward-thinking beauty at the film festival. Under the theme "Every woman in the world is a work of art," ARTISTRY launches the "ARTIST×ARTISTRY Gallery Project," a project supporting emerging female artists in Korea. The five artists present works reinterpreting the theme "Woman's Most Beautiful Moment." Through this project, ARTISTRY expands the spectrum of the "forward-thinking beauty" it has pursued for 55 years, offering more women a chance to reflect on forward-thinking beauty. Actor Choi Daniel joins as ambassador, helping bring the works closer to the public. This lineup, brimming with the vibrant energy unique to young female artists, can be enjoyed alongside ARTISTRY's full range of products at the Busan International Film Festival booth starting October 4.

ARTISTRY FORWARD BEAUTY GROUP

[Woman, the Most Beautiful Creation of God]

Kim So-hyun 〈Illustration〉

"No artificial beauty can surpass beauty in its natural state. Looking at the flowing curves of the female body, that thought comes naturally." She believes every woman wants to be the protagonist of her own life, and drew on that romantic ideal embodied by actresses. Using ARTISTRY's muse Teresa Palmer as her character, she rendered a confident, forward-thinking woman in a dreamlike image.

[Woman, a Being with the Power to Heal and Renew]

Ji Min-hee 〈Installation〉

Installation artist Ji Min-hee says her dream is to be "a witch-like artist" — one whose magic spells work for people who need healing. Her idea of "woman's most beautiful moment" is tied to that dream. "The ability to care for and heal others in the course of life — that is femininity itself, and a woman's most beautiful moment is when that femininity is fully expressed."

[Facing Oneself in Order to Be Beautiful, Makeup]

Kim Hyun Jung 〈Korean Painting〉

"When we apply makeup, we look in the mirror and become astonishingly absorbed in ourselves, confirming our own self-love. Isn't the moment we make an honest effort to become beautiful precisely a woman's most beautiful moment?" In Kim Hyun Jung's work, a woman rendered with elegant composure on the canvas reveals herself without any pretense of dignity. Yet the artist's message — "You, honestly discovering your own beauty, are already beautiful enough" — rings out with plenty of confidence.

[Birth of the 21st-Century Venus, the Selfie]

Kim So-yeon 〈Sculpture〉

Kim So-yeon's project theme is the "selfie." There's a tendency to see the selfie as somewhat ridiculous or low-brow, but she sees it in exactly the opposite way. Only in the moment of taking a selfie do women express themselves confidently and freely. Her work, depicting two women in selfie poses as if they were elegant Greek statues, carries the message: "Right now, in this moment, you are a goddess."

[Dream & Vision, a Woman Who Dreams]

Kim San-young 〈Painting〉

"The moment a woman holds a dream about what she does, immerses herself in it, and feels happiness within it — that is when a woman looks most beautiful. In fact, this is the moment any human being, man or woman, feels most beautiful." The artist herself is directly projected into her submitted work. Her story — of caring for her outward appearance while also attending to her inner life and career — is also the story of all of us living in the present day.
