Shinsegae Gallery Incheon is holding Korean painter Kim Hyun Jung's 'Naesoong' exhibition through the 26th to mark the Chuseok holiday season.

Kim Hyun Jung's 'Naesoong' series, representative of her distinctive body of work, portrays women in elegant hanbok engaging in unrefined, less-than-graceful behavior, juxtaposed against props that capture today's zeitgeist, staged as humorous scenes.

For this reason, her work has been praised as a witty 21st-century 'new genre painting' that combines the look of tradition and modernity on the canvas.

She paints the figure in the nude and then attaches hand-dyed hanji (traditional mulberry paper) to the upper garment to express the texture of hanbok, while the skirt below is rendered semi-transparently using ink-wash coloring techniques, letting the lines of the body show through to convey the sense that 'you can see right through her.'

A Shinsegae Gallery representative said, "Kim Hyun Jung's Naesoong series conveys a delightful insight into one's true self and life." (032)430-1158
